24 Environmental NGOs in Hong Kong to Launch a Joint Statement
on Nature Conservation Framework for Hong Kong
PRESS INVITATION
Commemorating the “International Day for Biological Diversity”, 24 environmental NGOs and Civic Exchange will deliver a Joint Statement supporting the Government’s decision to extend the Convention on Biological Diversity to Hong Kong.
The public has expressed growing concern over threats to biodiversity at sites such as Nam Sang Wai and Tai Long Sai Wan. The Convention provides an excellent framework to raise conservation in Hong Kong to world class standards.
This event will demonstrate an unprecedented show of support from the environmental NGOs for a Government conservation initiative. It will also outline how extending the Convention to Hong Kong offers a unique opportunity for collaboration between so many environmental NGOs, the Government and the wider community.
Dr Andy Cornish (Conservation Director of WWF Hong Kong) with representatives from other environmental NGOs including the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and Bloom Association will introduce the background issue, announce the Joint Statement, while representatives from many other groups will be on hand to and answer any questions from the media.
